If a movie becomes a 'do or die' situation for a couple of people, including its lead actor, then it becomes a notable thing to watch. Mammootty, who has not got a single hit in the last couple of years from his 10 movies, desperately needed a success now. On the other hand, the movie's director G.S.Vijayan ('Charithram', 'Aanavaal Mothiram', 'Cheppadividya' fame) is doing a movie after 12 years. His last release was 'Cover Story', which was not a good success.
Here comes the man who needs to save both of them with his magical script work. The proposed person is director Renjith, who comes in the role of script writer for the movie. In the current scenario, he has got the potential to create wonders. The movie was announced with the title 'Malabar' and Anoop Menon was expected to share the screen space along with M. But, the situation has been changed and Shankar Ramakrishnan, a former associate to Renjith and the co-actor in 'Spirit', comes in place of Anoop. Renjith also comes in the role of producer.
Though Bavutty (Mammootty) is a driver, he is like one among the members of the family of the business man (Shankar Ramakrishnan), his wife (Kavya Madhavan) and two daughters. When ever any member of the family came across some problems, Bavutty is there to find solutions for it. The smooth proceedings has been affected when a stranger, who hails from the wife's native, reached their house, on a day.
The story line and the situations told in the movie are not new. This is not a classic style from Renjth also. But, the simple presentation of the story with the mix of some subtle humour, accompanied by the good performance of the actors, make it a watchable one. Of course, Bavutty's character is likely to touch our heart at few moments. G.S.Vijayan had presented the movie in a good manner without any gimmicks, a Renjith flavour is evident in many areas. The home video, which is very popular in the Malabar areas, has been covering some portions of the movie. But, the people who are unaware of this creativity, might feel that those visuals were lengthy.
Mammotty did an excellent show and looks natural, his comed ytiming is also notable. At parts, the hero's role reminds of 'Valasalyam' and 'Raappakal'. Not an usual contestant, Shankar Ramakrishnan did a good show without giving any unnatural actions and gestures. Kavya Madhavan did the house wife in a lovable manner. Rima Kallingal and Kaniha gave good support. This is a come back role for Vineeth. Harisree Asokan has got a serious role and did it well. Parvathi is a miscast, her crying scene is over acting. Manoj Pillai is the cinematpgrapher. Sandeep Nandakumar is the editor. Bg score by Bijibal is good.
"Bavuttiyude Naamathil might not be an unusual creativity, but it is simple and definitely a lovable movie for the family audiences."
