Chapters || Review

The 17th IFFK conducted this month, has caused the delay in the release of the new movie 'Chapters', at the capital city. It is better to be late than never. The movie scripted and directed by new comer Sunil Ebraham, is produced by Shafeer Sait, who worked as a production executive for many years. 

The presence of this much actors and the execution of the story in the first few scenes, gave the impression that 'Chapters' might be another example of the 'new generation movies' (don't know such a category really exists), with a parallel story line. The proceedings starts with four friends (Nivin Pauly, Hemanth, Vijeesh, Dharmajan), belonging to middle class families, decided to do an unusual business, for making money. The first party needs bulk amount of money for his sister's marriage and his friends are helping him to save money at any cost. Besides them, there are two other tracks of story, where a travel agent (Sreenivasan) and another group of friends (Rajath Menon, Vineeth Kumar, Aju Vargheese, Gowthami Nair etc) participates.

The presentation of the movie, where the story divided into three different chapters and the way in which they are connected, felt interesting. This style has got the flavor of some foreign films. A couple of good twists has been told here. The projected villain character in the third chapter, is a notable funny area to watch. The first half creates a lag in few places, the family drama episode is a cliche, the performance of Hemanth should have been better. Also one can doubt, whether the connection between at least a couple of characters in the two chapters, is a deliberate creation. But, the voice over in the end, is an answer for this. The theory is simple, our life still travels through the millions of stories that has never told...

Krish Kymal's cinematography is excellent. The hilly locations has been neatly captured by him. V.Saajan is the editor. Mejo Joseph's bg score is good for the mood, but the songs are not in the best form, also the couple of them shown here might only help to adjust the length of the movie. Nivin Pauly, Dharamajan, Vineeth Kumar, Manikandan, Shine Tom etc were the competent performers from the list. In his debut movie itself, Sunil Ibrahim has been successful in creating attention.
